The last hours of our Roadtrip plus Exploring Dublin Part 2

St. Fin Barre´s Cathedral
As promised, here comes the second part of my travelogue on Ireland. For all those who don't know the first one yet, you can find it here.

We would have liked to have had a cup of coffee somewhere at the Ring of Kerry, but somehow everything looked too crowded. So, we drove on to Cork, where we stopped by to visit the St. Fin Barre´s Cathedral and then took a break at The Hunted Hog in Castlemartyr, which has an unexpectedly large guest garden. And I can recommend eating there as well, cause it tasted really great.
Our Room at the Copper Coast B&B
Strengthened we made our way from there to the Copper Coast B&B. At first sight, I would have loved to flee from there because from the outside it looks a bit run-down, but after we entered the house and got to know the owner, we were reassured. Even if the facade of this pension does not look particularly lovely, inside everything is nicely prepared and maintained.

Copper Coast Beach
For dinner, however, we had to accept a half hour drive, as everything around us had closed for June Bank Holiday. We ended up with an Italian who was quite ok, not unique, I didn´t even remember the name. Plus, I prefer to eat typical local food during my holidays anyway.

When we drove back after dinner, we decided to take a walk along the beach at the Copper Coast, which was only a few minutes away from our accommodation. We were rewarded with an almost empty beach due to the late time of day and an overwhelming atmosphere.

Kilkenny Castle
When we left the next morning after a varied breakfast, we were almost a bit wistful, because our destination was our accommodation in Dublin. And thus the end of rural peace and relaxation. We made a few detours on the way because we still had plenty of time. So, we visited Kilkenny Castle in Kilkenny and drove from there almost exclusively on smaller country roads.

Punctually at 15 o'clock we finally arrived at our accommodation. A room booked through AirBnb in the house of a gay couple. We unloaded our luggage and went straight to the car rental to drop the car off. This was already agreed in advance because in Dublin a vehicle is really not necessary and besides the rental costs, our decision was also connected to the parking problems in Dublin.

With the Airlink Express Bus, we traveled from the airport back to the city. A tip for all those who want to make a city trip to Dublin. The Airlink Express stops near many hotels, and when you buy a ticket, you can buy a combination ticket that really saves money. On the one hand, you can save a little if you buy a return ticket together. On the other hand, there is also the possibility to buy a ticket for a sightseeing bus line, and you save a lot of money.

In the biggest Park in Dublin
Back in the accommodation we first moved into our room and made ourselves fresh, to find something to eat for dinner afterward. We were beaten to death at dinner after we realized that our place wasn't that great and didn't look like it did on the photos. It contained only a cupboard bed, and next to it there was just enough space to store our bags on the floor and to reach the balcony door. The bathroom could not be locked, and there was no breakfast other than indicated either. The food we had then was satisfying, but nothing more. And somehow the desire to explore Dublin was no longer so great. We used the time at dinner to look for hotel alternatives, but at such short notice, we would only have gotten something expensive or a bed in the dormitory of a youth hostel. So, we decided to make the most of our situation. And how much time do you spend in your room anyway?

The next morning, we went to the nearby Spar to get everything we needed for a delicious breakfast and then made our way to explore Dublin.  The whole day we were switching between walking and riding with a hop-on hop-of bus and that way we had fun and saw a lot of things. The bus drivers were all much friendlier than we were used to from home and above all in such a good mood. The bus drivers told us about the city during the trip, and one of them even sang a typical Irish song to us. A few of the passengers also joined in, which the driver was visibly touched by and thanked.

Dinner at The Riddler - so delicious
In between, we took a break in one of the many pubs and were immediately involved in a conversation with the bartender. When we had finally seen the most famous sights, we went to our accommodation to rest a little before we went out for dinner. And this time we got our money's worth again. Only 5 minutes walk away from our AirBnb we found a restaurant called The Riddler, where we enjoyed a perfect last dinner. By the way, there is also an Early-Bird menu here with which one can save money if one goes eating before a specific time. However, I can no longer remember precisely whether 18 or 19 o'clock was the limit for it. After dinner, we made a detour to a pub to enjoy the atmosphere.

The next day we slept in peace, had breakfast and made our way to the airport. Much too quickly this dream vacation had passed.

I hope I've been able to arouse a little wanderlust in you. And as I said before, I am happy to help you with any questions you may have about Ireland or traveling in Ireland. Just leave me a comment, and I´ll get back to you.

And no matter what´s your next destination, don't forget that the world has so much to offer and wants to be discovered.
