UK Road Trip - Solihul to Eyemouth

Route of the day
Dear Reader, thanks for coming back. Today I’m going to tell you more about our trip. If you haven’t read the first part, feel free to take a look here.

On Friday morning we made our way to breakfast at the “Limes Country Lodge”. My friend chose the Full English Breakfast and found out that this is probably not for him - which is perfectly all right, how can you know it anyway if you have never tried it before? But what was really disappointing was the continental breakfast that consisted of a few 35g cereal packs and a carafe of milk. The breakfast waiter/receptionist was anything but friendly. He managed only to ask “Full English Breakfast? Coffee or tea?” and then disappeared again. So while my darling was eating his breakfast, I only consumed a bowl of cereal and a sip of the terrible coffee.

After this disappointment, we packed up our things, paid the open amount from dinner at the check-out, and then made our way to the next hotel. Directly? Maybe you will ask yourselves. Except for a side trip to the next best shop where I should get something to eat already. After all, it was a way of almost 300 kilometers that was ahead of us on that day. But first a “reasonable” breakfast.

We landed at Beckett’s Farm. Here you will find not only a shop with various delicacies but also a restaurant and a flower shop. So we walked into the shop and were already completely overwhelmed at the dessert counter. We both indulged ourselves in a sweet piece and then walked on to the sandwich bar to get some travel provisions. Also here the overload was significant. We were confronted with a system similar to Subway, but with an even more extensive selection of homemade delicacies. Since there was relatively little going on, the nice lady behind the counter took a lot of time for us and so we finally had not only a sandwich for on the way but also two coffees in our hands. In passing, we quickly took water with us, and then we were out again. On one of the picnic tables in front of the shop, we ate the sweet bits, and I was happy about the - for England - good coffee. And then we were already on our way to our destination.

Our room at the Home Arms Guesthouse
Since we were on motorways almost all the time, we saw practically nothing on the way. Nevertheless, we had fun. I think during this drive we laughed more than we have in a long time. We were both in a good mood. After all, we were just at the beginning of our holiday and were planning to see a lot more as soon as we would have made this long drive. And so we arrived in Eyemouth around 4 pm.

Fish & Chips at The Ship Restaurant
The room in “The Home Arms Guesthouse” was sweet and cozy and at the opposite of it was only a parking lot and behind it the sea. After a short trip to the local supermarket, where we stocked up with provisions for the rest of the trip, we walked comfortably through the village and finally stopped for dinner at “The Ship Restaurant & Bar”. I just had to treat myself with something typically British and was very satisfied with the fish and chips I chose. Richard was also happy with his steak sandwich. After dinner, we had a look at the village, and a little later we strolled along the coast and had an ice cream of “Giacopazzi”, which I can only recommend.

If you are interested in reading more about our trip, please come again in a few days as I´m about to write the next portion for you as soon as possible. Till then, maybe take a look at my other posts and find some more inspiration.

Have a nice day
yours
Julia
