Roadtrip through the UK - Loch Ness to Glasgow

Welcome back, dear reader. Today I’m telling you about the best moments of our journey. If you hadn’t had the time to catch up with my UK stories, you best start reading at the beginning.

Roadside at the "Ach-Na-Sidhe" B&B
An exceptional highlight at the “Ach-Na-Sidhe” for us was also the breakfast that was served there. In the evening we had marked on a list what we would like to have, and I honestly tell you that we got the best breakfast of the holiday here. And every now and then Marsaili came by and asked if we needed anything else. It was so lovely of her. We felt really pampered.

But finally, we had to set off again with a laughing and a crying eye, because the next hotel was waiting for us in Glasgow. But the way there was marked by the most breathtaking impressions. Mainly if one follows the A82 from Glencoe towards "Loch Lomond National Park", one drives over narrow roads through the mountains, and we were lucky that it started to rain that morning. Yes, usually rain is not very welcome on holiday, but here it only contributed to the magic of the moment, as the rainwater poured over the rocks in improvised waterfalls and so we couldn’t get out of amazement a good part of the way. Of course, the drive through the national park was also lovely, but nothing compared to the previous stretch.

The stunning Highlands
The “Belhaven Hotel” in Glasgow was situated in a quiet side street and was also quite lovely. In the bathroom, some mold had accumulated, and the pipes made the most terrible noises when the water was turned up, but the bed was mega-comfortable.

All in all, we both didn’t really like the city - well at least the little bit we saw of it. Since it hadn’t stopped raining since getting up, we didn’t feel like sightseeing anymore, and so we left the hotel only once during a rain break when it was just drizzling to go to a nearby restaurant. But I can really recommend “The Bothy” without any restrictions. It is a bit hidden in a dead-end, but the atmosphere was great, the staff courteous and attentive and the food was super delicious.

The Bothy
I had ordered the Catch of the Day and experienced the best dinner of our holiday. My darling wasn’t quite so happy with his burger, but that’s the way it is, you can’t always be lucky with your choice of food. But I have to say that I wouldn’t like pickles in a burger either.

Best Fish ever at The Bothy
In the evening we had a coffee in the hotel bar. It was actually already closed, but the receptionist was so lovely and served us something and even turned the lights on for us again - high praise for this motivated and not self-evident service.

That’s it for today, but soon enough, more will follow. I hope you keep reading on in a few days. Until then, if you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment, and I wish you a happy traveling.

Yours
Julia
